Laling Fort

Laling Fort is a military fort situated on Laling Hill with defensive walls, bastions, and multiple entry points spread across the elevated terrain. The structure occupies the hilltop and commands views over the surrounding landscape from its various positions.

The Faruqi Kings established this strategic fortification in the 12th century as an important military post. Later, it faced siege by Bahamani forces, demonstrating its role as a contested location in regional conflicts.

Two Hemadpanti temples near the fort showcase architectural traditions of Maharashtra, with one dedicated to the goddess Lilitamata at the summit. Visitors often encounter religious practices at these structures during their visit to the site.

The fort is accessible daily with recently built steps making the climb easier, though sturdy footwear is recommended for the ascent. Be aware that the hilltop can be quite windy and the sun exposure is significant during midday hours.

Multiple rock-cut water cisterns within the fort provided a reliable water supply system for the military personnel stationed at this elevated location. This engineering solution demonstrates how fortress builders addressed the challenge of sustaining water access at hilltop positions.
