Saptashrungi, Hindu temple on seven mountain peaks in Nashik district, India
Saptashrungi is a Hindu temple on seven mountain peaks in Nashik district, India. The stone structure rises to an elevation of 1230 meters and consists of two floors, with the upper level housing the main shrine.
The temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sacred sites that arose when parts of the goddess Sati fell at different locations according to Hindu mythology. This connection to the goddess has made it a pilgrimage destination for centuries.
The shrine takes its name from the seven peaks on which it stands, drawing devotees who come to pray and light incense. Visitors often see pilgrims climbing the steps barefoot, carrying small offerings of flowers or coconuts.
The shrine can be reached by climbing 510 steps or taking the funicular railway that runs from the base to the entrance. The walk up takes about an hour, while the ride covers the distance in just a few minutes.
The main deity inside the shrine is a figure roughly 3 meters tall (about 10 feet) with 18 arms holding different weapons. It is completely covered in red sindoor powder and wears silver ornaments.
