Chandwad Fort, Fort in Nashik district, India

Chandwad Fort stands on the Ajintha Satmal Hill Range, featuring rock-cut steps, water cisterns, and multiple caves within its stone walls.

Built in 801 AD by Dridhaprahara of the Seuna dynasty, the fort changed hands between the Bahmani Sultanate, Mughals, Marathas, and British forces.

The fort contains 52 temples established by King Bhoj, marking the location where his daughter Chandrakala married King Vikram.

The ascent requires a three-hour trek through dense vegetation from Indraiwadi village, located 9 kilometers from the town of Chandwad.

The fort maintains several rock-cut water cisterns throughout its premises, enabling overnight stays in the caves during exploration expeditions.
