Gargoti Museum, Geological museum in Sinnar, India.
Gargoti Museum is a geological museum in Sinnar, Maharashtra, displaying minerals, gems, and fossils sourced from across the world. It is organized into two main galleries, each focused on a different category of specimens, from raw crystals to fossilized remains.
The museum grew from a private mineral collection built over many decades by a naval engineer, who eventually opened it to the public in 2001. The collection has continued to expand since then, with new specimens added over the years.
The museum name originates from the Marathi word for pebbles, reflecting the regional connection to the geological specimens displayed within.
The two galleries are laid out in a way that makes it easy to move from one section to the other without getting lost. Guided tours are available and give useful background on what you are looking at.
Among the specimens on display are rock samples from the Moon and Mars, objects found in very few museums anywhere in the world. A visit here offers a rare chance to stand close to material that came from beyond Earth.
