Gargoti Museum, Geological museum in Sinnar, India.
Gargoti Museum is a geological collection in Sinnar divided into two main galleries displaying minerals, gems, and fossils from around the world. The exhibition features over 1,000 specimens including zeolites, crystals, precious stones, and fossilized remains of ancient life.
The museum grew from a personal mineral collection assembled over decades by a Naval Engineer, which opened to the public in 2001. Since its establishment, it has continued to grow and add new specimens to its displays.
The museum name originates from the Marathi word for pebbles, reflecting the regional connection to the geological specimens displayed within.
The museum is straightforward to navigate with its two main galleries laid out for easy exploration of the mineral displays. Guided tours are offered regularly and provide helpful context about the specimens on view.
The collection includes remarkably rare rocks from the Moon and Mars, objects found in very few other museums worldwide. This makes the location an unexpected destination for encounters with extraterrestrial minerals in central India.
