Kusum Sarovar

Kusum Sarovar is a religious building complex near Govardhan Hill that combines a deep water reservoir with multiple shrines in sandstone. The site features finely carved details throughout and is arranged across a wide terraced layout.

The complex was built in the 18th century as a memorial to an important local ruler and includes several tomb chambers. The structure marks a significant moment when such monuments joined power and faith together in this region.

The shrines here display paintings showing scenes from the story of Radha and Krishna, which remain deeply rooted in the beliefs of people in this region. Visitors can still see today how these images reflect the spiritual connection between the place and local religious traditions.

The place is easy to reach from the road connecting Govardhan with other nearby destinations. Visitors should wear good shoes, as the terraces and surroundings can be uneven and there is much to explore on foot.

The water reservoir here was dug so deep that it holds water even during dry times, which once supplied pilgrims and travelers. This function made the place both practical and spiritual, since water has always been precious in this region.
