Gokul barrage, Water management structure near Mathura, India.
The Gokul Barrage spans across the Yamuna River, functioning as both a water control facility and a road bridge connecting surrounding areas.
Opening its gates in March 2003, the Gokul Barrage emerged as a response to growing irrigation needs in the Ganga-Jamuna Doab region.
The structure influences the lives of 25,000 farmers in Mathura district who depend on its water distribution for agricultural sustainability.
The barrage allocates 30 cubic feet of water per second to Mathura and Vrindavan, while supplying 115 cubic feet per second to Agra.
This infrastructure forms part of National Waterway NW110, contributing to India's inland water transportation network while managing regional water resources.
