Gokul barrage

Gokul Barrage is a water control structure on the Yamuna River that regulates flow and connects surrounding areas as a road bridge. The facility diverts water in different amounts: some goes to Mathura and Vrindavan while larger quantities are directed toward irrigation needs further downstream near Agra.

The barrage opened in 2003 to address growing irrigation needs in the region between the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. It was built to help distribute water more fairly among the areas of Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra that depend on the Yamuna.
