Eyyal burial cave

Eyyal burial cave is a rock-cut tomb featuring a circular chamber carved directly from solid stone. The interior contains an uneven stone bench and a single passageway leading into the enclosed space.

The burial site dates to the megalithic period and reveals that this region had settlements in ancient times. Coins from the 2nd century found here show trade connections with distant empires.

The burial site tells us how ancient communities honored their dead and valued stone construction. Visitors walking through the chamber can see the marks left by those who carved it centuries ago.

The site is easily accessible from Cochin Airport and lies near other archaeological remains from the same period. It is helpful to ask locally for directions, as the entrance can be tucked away and not immediately obvious.

The burial chamber has two sections rather than one, which is uncommon among similar structures from this period. This double layout suggests it may have served a special purpose or held multiple individuals.
