St. Francis Xavier Forane Church, Velur

Located at the center of Velur, the church stands as a protected monument within the Archdiocese of Thrissur with its traditional Syro-Malabar architectural elements.

The church began its religious service in 1724 after German missionary Fr. Johann Ernst Hanxleden, known as Arnos Padiri, established it in honor of St. Francis Xavier.

The church maintains Syro-Malabar Catholic traditions through regular masses, processions, and ceremonies that reflect the religious heritage of Kerala Christians.

Religious services take place three times on Sundays at 6:30 AM, 10:00 AM, and 4:00 PM, with additional weekday masses scheduled at 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM.

The statue of St. Francis Xavier inside the church holds a cane rod instead of the traditional Bible, following a modification by Arnos Padiri.
