Rajkot Greenfield International Airport, Under-construction airport in Rajkot, Gujarat, India
Rajkot Greenfield International Airport is a modern airport built near Hirasar village, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Rajkot city. The facility features a runway measuring approximately 3,040 meters (9,970 feet) that accommodates large aircraft, a terminal building with boarding bridges and conveyor systems, and passenger processing areas including check-in counters, baggage claim sections, and security stations.
Construction began in 2017 with a ground-breaking ceremony in October of that year and progressed in phases over several years. The need for a new airport emerged because the existing city-center facility could not expand to handle larger aircraft or accommodate future passenger growth.
The terminal is clearly organized with separate sections for check-in, security screening, and boarding, making navigation straightforward for travelers. Arriving early during peak hours allows comfortable time for standard security procedures and baggage processing without feeling rushed.
The terminal building blends contemporary design with local artistic elements, featuring jewelry and filigree motifs inspired by traditional Rajkot palaces on its exterior panels. This integration of modern architecture with regional craftsmanship creates a distinctive appearance that distinguishes the airport from typical facilities and celebrates local heritage through its facade.
