Glenburn Tea Estate, Tea garden in Darjeeling district, India.

Glenburn Tea Estate is a tea garden spread across rolling hills in Darjeeling, with land at varying elevations between 1000 and 3000 feet (300 to 900 meters). Two restored bungalows serve as accommodation from which visitors can explore tea production and the surrounding landscape.

This tea garden was established in 1859 by Scottish entrepreneurs, beginning a continuous history of tea production. It has been managed by the Prakash family across multiple generations, preserving a significant chapter in the region's tea-growing story.

Women from nearby villages harvest tea leaves daily on the slopes, keeping alive agricultural traditions that shape the rhythm of the surrounding communities. This work remains central to local life and family ties across generations.

Visitors can walk through the tea gardens and observe harvesting and processing firsthand, though steep slopes require sturdy footwear. The hillside location means weather can be unpredictable, so bringing layers and rain protection is wise.

The estate includes a large forest preserve with native tree species tucked within the tea plantings, creating a natural refuge amid cultivation. Visitors rarely realize this wooded area allows them to move between manicured hillsides and wilder terrain in a single walk.
