Durgadi Fort

Durgadi Fort is a structure built on a hilltop beside Kalyan creek, featuring 11 bastions and multiple entrances positioned near the Mumbai-Agra road. The layout spreads across the elevated terrain with strategic positioning that surveys the surrounding area and provides several points of access for visitors.

Construction of this fort began during Shah Jahan's reign and was completed under Aurangzeb in 1694, with Portuguese workers playing a key role in its building. The erection unfolded across several decades and reflects the architectural techniques and demands of that era.

A temple dedicated to goddess Durga sits within the fort walls and becomes a focal point during the nine-day Navratri festival when thousands come to pay their respects. The shrine reflects the spiritual role this place holds for local communities and pilgrims traveling from nearby areas.

The fort is reachable in about 15 minutes from Kalyan railway station by local buses or auto-rickshaws that run throughout the day. Getting there is straightforward since regular services are available and the site is easy to access from the main transport hub.

According to local accounts, workers discovered treasure during foundation excavations, crediting the discovery to blessings from goddess Durga. This finding shaped the fort's naming and tied the place closely to local religious belief.
