Jameh Mosque of Varamin

Jameh Mosque of Varamin, Historical mosque in Varamin, Iran.

The Jameh Mosque of Varamin is a brick and tile religious building located near Tehran. The structure encompasses a large interior space and is topped by a central dome supported by a distinctive drum system featuring multiple sides.

This building emerged in the early 14th century during the Ilkhanid period and was modified and expanded over subsequent generations. Later restoration work maintained and renewed key structural elements of the original design.

The mosque displays features of Ilkhanid and Timurid architecture through detailed geometric patterns and decorative tilework that adorn its surfaces. These ornamental styles were typical for religious buildings of the period and show how craftsmen used design to honor the space.

The building remains an active religious center and visitors should be aware of local customs and prayer times. The space requires appropriate attire and respectful behavior when entering the sacred areas.

The dome rests on a sixteen-sided drum fitted with alternating windows that bring natural light into the interior in a subtle way. This design solution was uncommon and demonstrates the technical creativity of builders from that era.
