Band-e Amir Dam

Band-e Amir Dam spans the Kar River with thirteen arched openings and measures approximately 120 meters long and 5 meters wide. The structure consists of stone with solid vertical piers that separate the flow passages from one another.

The dam was built during the Buyid dynasty when Adud al-Dawla ordered its construction around 365 AH for water storage and control. It emerged as a response to the irrigation needs of the agricultural region of Zarqan.

The dam functions as a gathering place for local residents during seasonal celebrations and harvest events. It reflects the community's deep connection to water management and agricultural traditions.

Bring sufficient water and food supplies, as facilities in the immediate area are limited. Wear appropriate footwear since the terrain can be uneven and stone surfaces may become slippery.

The masonry was built with a mixture of stone and mortar so resistant that iron tools cannot penetrate it. This material is remarkable for its strength and durability across centuries.
