Hadish Palace, Achaemenid palace in Persepolis, Iran.
Hadish Palace is an Achaemenid palace structure in Persepolis measuring about 2,550 square meters on the highest terrace level. The building was supported by thirty-six columns and surrounded by six chambers that likely served different functions.
The palace was built during the reign of Xerxes I around 500 BCE as a center of royal authority. In 330 BCE, Alexander the Great's forces set fire to Persepolis, causing significant damage to the structure.
The palace displays Persian architectural design through stone carvings that show royal ceremonies and the power structure of the Achaemenid court. These carved scenes reveal how important rituals and official functions took place within these walls.
The site is accessed through the main Persepolis archaeological area located in Marvdasht County, roughly 60 kilometers from Shiraz. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is uneven and the stone ruins have rough surfaces throughout the site.
The northern columned hall holds preserved inscriptions in Old Persian, Elamite, and Babylonian languages that record the royal titles of Xerxes. These multilingual texts reveal how the empire communicated its authority across different regions and peoples.
