Saint Sarkis Church

Saint Sarkis Church is a church building in Khoy, Iran, combining architectural elements from different periods. The structure is supported by six stone columns, and light enters through eight small openings in the walls.

The building was completed in 1120 and displays architectural features from the Seljuk and Safavid periods. This blending of two distinct styles reflects the rich history of the region.

The church displays traditional Armenian religious paintings on plaster near the altar in the northeast section. These artworks reflect the enduring Armenian presence and faith in this region.

The building has two entrance doors on the southern side providing access to the interior. The church is located in West Azerbaijan Province, in a mountainous area with cold winters.

The exterior walls are built from square-shaped limestone blocks arranged in a structured pattern. This crafted approach demonstrates the careful construction using locally available stone.
