Húsavíkurkirkja

Húsavíkurkirkja is a Lutheran church in Húsavík, Iceland, featuring Swiss chalet-style architecture with a 26-meter steeple and wooden construction using materials imported from Norway. The building stands out for its distinctive appearance and careful craftsmanship throughout.

State architect Rögnvaldur Ólafsson designed and built this Lutheran church in 1907, making it the main religious building in Húsavík. The structure was created as a modern gathering place for the community during that period.

The interior displays a painting of Lazarus rising from the dead by Sveinn Thórarinsson, with Icelandic landscapes visible behind the altar.

A pipe organ installed in 1964 fills the wooden interior with music during services. Hand-carved details by Johann Bjornsson decorate the walls and showcase traditional craftsmanship.
