Jökulsárgljúfur, Canyon in Norðurþing, Iceland.
The Jökulsárgljúfur extends for 25 kilometers through northern Iceland, reaching depths of 100 meters and a width of 500 meters along its course.
The formation of this deep canyon began approximately 10,000 years ago through powerful glacial floods that carved the landscape into its current form.
The canyon holds Norse mythology connections, particularly through Ásbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped depression that marks the area's traditional storytelling heritage.
The canyon offers multiple access points via Routes 862 and 864, with camping facilities available at Ásbyrgi, Dettifoss, and Vesturdalur from May to September.
The Jökulsá á Fjöllum river flows through the canyon, creating Europe's most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss, with its 45-meter drop and 100-meter width.
