Rovigo, Administrative center in Veneto, Italy.
Rovigo is an administrative town in the province of Rovigo, Veneto, Italy. The settlement sits on flat terrain between two watercourses and displays buildings from the Renaissance, Baroque and later centuries along its main streets and around its central squares.
A document from Ravenna dated April 24, 838 marks the first written mention of this place. In 1194, the settlement passed into the possession of the Este family, who exercised their rule here.
The name of the town may derive from the Latin term rhodigium, referring to an area crossed by irrigation channels. Today, locals gather under the covered arcades in the center for daily shopping and afternoon meetings.
The railway station in the center connects the town to Venice, Bologna and Verona through regular train services. The A13 motorway runs nearby and allows quick drives to the main cities in the region.
The Accademia dei Concordi has preserved a collection of rare manuscripts and historical documents in the Town Hall complex since 1580. Visitors can see handwritten texts from different centuries here, including works on astronomy and literature.
