Valtournenche, Alpine municipality in Aosta Valley, Italy.
Valtournenche is an Alpine municipality in the Aosta Valley that stretches along the left side of the Dora Baltea river toward the Matterhorn. The settlement sits on mountainous terrain at about 1,500 meters elevation.
The area began as a traditional mountain settlement but underwent major changes in the 20th century when the Breuil-Cervinia ski resort was developed. This transformation turned it into a modern tourism destination.
The municipality preserves traditional Alpine architecture with wooden chalets and stone buildings that shape how the village looks and feels today.
Visitors can reach the area by regular bus services from Chatillon train station. Additional connections link it to other settlements throughout the Aosta Valley.
The territory connects Italian ski slopes with Swiss slopes through the Plateau Rosa glacier. This high plateau allows skiers to move between two countries without descending to the valley.
