Raptor, Wing coaster in Gardaland, Italy
Raptor is a steel roller coaster with seats hanging on either side of the track at a theme park near Lake Garda. The ride travels through three inversions and reaches speeds around ninety kilometers per hour along a seven-hundred-seventy-meter circuit.
This coaster opened in April two thousand eleven as the first prototype of this design from the Swiss manufacturer. The installation introduced a new form of roller coaster in Italy, where passengers sit beside the track.
The name refers to a bird of prey theme that shapes the train design and ride experience. Open seating beside the track lets riders feel exposed during flight, with nothing below their feet.
Riders must be at least one hundred forty centimeters tall to board, and no taller than one hundred ninety-five centimeters (about 4.5 to 6.4 feet). The track runs partly underground and passes water features, so bring a light jacket during cooler weather.
The structure reaches a height of thirty-three meters (about 108 feet) and begins with a drop at a sixty-five-degree angle. Each train carries twenty-eight people at once, an unusually high capacity for this type of ride.
