Castelnuovo del Garda covers 33.86 square kilometers of morainic hills at 130 meters elevation, providing panoramic views over Lake Garda and the surrounding countryside with diverse landscapes.

Destroyed in the 12th century by Frederick Barbarossa, the town was rebuilt as a fortified settlement called Castrum Novum and passed through various rulers before joining Italy in 1866.
