Chiavari, Coastal town in Liguria, Italy
Chiavari is a commune in the Metropolitan City of Genoa in Liguria, positioned between the Mediterranean coast and inland hills along the Entella River. The town displays covered arcades along main streets and a mix of medieval lanes with Renaissance architecture.
A Roman settlement formed here along the Via Aurelia, and archaeological finds reveal a necropolis from the 7th century BC. The medieval town later developed as an important coastal point in the Liguria region.
The central district contains numerous palaces, including the Palazzo di Giustizia from 1886 and religious structures like the Shrine of Our Lady dell'Orto from 1613.
The railway station offers connections to other Italian cities, and an underground passage leads to the beach promenade. Visitors find access to the marina and several public beaches along the coast.
The park of Villa Rocca houses a greenhouse for orchids and a bamboo forest. Inside stands a small neoclassical pavilion known as the Temple of Music.
