Tiscali, Archaeological site in Dorgali, Italy.

Tiscali is an archaeological site set within a natural limestone cave near Dorgali, containing over one hundred rooms and chambers. These structures are divided between northern and southwestern areas of the dolina, a large natural depression carved into the mountainside.

The village was founded during the Middle Bronze Age and remained continuously inhabited through the Roman period, with building styles changing across each era. The remains show how residents adapted and rebuilt their homes across the centuries.

The settlement displays different building styles across its rooms: circular structures from the Nuragic period stand alongside rectangular buildings from the Roman era. Walking through the site, you can observe how two distinct architectural traditions coexist in the same space.

The site is reached via marked hiking trails, with two main starting points at Scala di Surtana in Dorgali or Valle di Lanaittu in Oliena. The hike is physically demanding and requires sturdy footwear and adequate time to explore the ruins.

The village sits at 500 meters elevation within a large natural mountain depression and is completely hidden from outside view, while offering clear sightlines to the surrounding valleys. This location made it a secure refuge while allowing residents to observe the landscape beyond.
