Passo Ghenna Silana, Tourist attraction in Urzulei, Sardinia, Italy.
Passo Ghenna Silana is a mountain pass in Urzulei's territory, sitting at 1,025 meters and serving as a natural gateway between the Supramonte mountains and surrounding valleys. The location has parking facilities and connects to walking trails that lead deeper into the mountain area and toward Gorropu Gorge.
This mountain pass has been used for centuries as a vital route connecting inland Sardinian territories through the mountains. The path developed as a key way for local communities to cross the landscape and exchange goods and movement between regions.
The pass holds meaning in the pastoral traditions of the mountain communities. Local herders still use ancient routes here to move livestock across the highlands, a practice visible in how the paths and landscape are shaped by generations of use.
The site is accessible year-round and provides parking for visitors. Several walking trails begin here and lead into the mountain region and toward the Gorropu Gorge.
From this high point, visitors can see two mountain ranges at the same time: the Gennargentu massif and the limestone cliffs facing the Gulf of Orosei. This view gives the pass a special quality as a place where two very different landscapes appear together.

Sardinia preserves evidence of over 3,000 years of human settlement. Nuragic towers from the Bronze Age rise across plains and hills, while rock-cut tombs recall prehistoric communities. Roman temples stand beside Byzantine churches, and medieval basilicas mark coastal towns. The landscape forms through limestone caves with stalactite formations, deep gorges that cut through mountain ranges, and springs that emerge from the ground. The coast alternates between long sandy bays and steep cliffs, where lighthouses rise above the sea. Inland, mountain passes lead through wilderness to hidden settlements and archaeological sites. Visitors can walk through burial grounds, descend into cave systems, swim at remote beaches or explore Roman ruins. The island connects history with nature in a way that invites exploration.
