Nuragic complex of Sa Sedda e Sos Carros

Nuragic complex of Sa Sedda e Sos Carros, Nuragic archaeological site in Lanaitho Valley, Italy.

The Nuragic complex of Sa Sedda e Sos Carros is an archaeological settlement featuring circular and rectangular huts arranged around a central courtyard with a water drainage channel running through it. Excavations have revealed multiple residential areas alongside a sacred zone centered on a spring.

This Nuragic village was inhabited between 1200 and 700 BC, representing the later phase of this ancient Sardinian culture. The settlement was eventually abandoned as regional life patterns and economic systems shifted over time.

The sacred spring with its central sandstone basin served as a place where the community gathered for ritual ceremonies involving water flowing through carved ram heads. This location reveals how deeply spiritual practices were woven into the fabric of daily life.

The site sits at roughly 300 meters elevation in the Lanaitho Valley, and only a portion of the excavated area is open for visitors to explore. Sturdy footwear is advisable since the terrain is uneven and access paths may be unpaved.

A lead plumbing system connected the carved ram heads to the central basin, revealing advanced technical abilities in this ancient era. This water system was a remarkable engineering achievement for the period.
