Rock drawings in Valcamonica, Prehistoric rock art site in Valcamonica, Italy.

Rock drawings in Valcamonica is a collection of more than 140,000 carved images spread across multiple locations in the valley. These scenes portray daily activities, weapons, religious symbols, and various human pursuits from ancient times.

The rock carvings were created over thousands of years, beginning around 8,000 years ago and continuing through the Bronze, Iron, and Roman ages. This collection records the extended human habitation of the Alpine region and how societies evolved during these periods.

The carvings depict hunting parties, farming work, and religious ceremonies that reveal how people spent their days in this valley. Through these scenes, you can understand what mattered most to the communities who lived here thousands of years ago.

The valley has eight archaeological parks with marked trails connecting different rock art sites that are easy to explore. Guided tours and information signs help visitors understand the meaning and details of the carvings.

Among the thousands of images are the earliest known depictions of ski poles and wheels in human history. These surprising finds show that people in this ancient community already understood certain technical innovations.
