Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, Roman temple on Capitoline Hill, Rome, Italy.

The Temple of Jupiter features a massive rectangular podium with columns surrounding the main structure housing three separate chambers for worshipping Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva.

Construction of the temple began in 509 BCE under Tarquinius Superbus, marking the establishment of the Roman Republic and underwent multiple reconstructions due to fires.

The temple served as the central religious sanctuary of ancient Rome where generals offered prayers before military campaigns and celebrated victories with ceremonial processions.

Visitors can examine the temple foundations and archaeological remains behind the Palazzo dei Conservatori and within the Capitoline Museums on Capitoline Hill.

The temple measured approximately 60 meters by 60 meters, making it the largest known Etruscan-style temple in ancient Rome for several centuries.
