Castel Giubileo Bridge, Road bridge on Grande Raccordo Anulare, Rome, Italy.
Castel Giubileo Bridge is a reinforced concrete road bridge crossing the Tiber River in Rome, connecting northern districts to the city center. The structure spans the waterway with multiple sections and carries traffic on the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road.
The bridge was completed in 1951 as part of Rome's post-war reconstruction efforts. It became essential infrastructure connecting northern residential areas to the city core during rapid urban expansion.
The bridge stands near the ancient settlement of Fidenae, founded in the 11th century BC, between the historical Via Salaria and Via Nomentana roads.
Keep in mind this is primarily an automobile-focused infrastructure with heavy traffic during peak hours. Pedestrians and cyclists have no dedicated pathways, so the bridge is not practical for non-vehicular crossing.
The structure presented an engineering challenge because it had to support heavy road traffic while allowing river vessels to pass underneath. This dual purpose required innovative design solutions for the span configuration.
