Colonna dell'Abbondanza

The granite column rises from the square, topped with a bronze statue holding a cornucopia that symbolizes agricultural prosperity and wealth.

The column marks the intersection of ancient Roman roads Cardo and Decumanus Maximus, establishing the center point of Roman Florence in the 1st century BC.

The original statue by Donatello represented Dovizia, later replaced by Foggini's marble creation in 1721, reflecting changing artistic interpretations through centuries.

The column features two iron fixtures: an upper one for the market bell and a lower one where dishonest merchants were chained for public display.

During the 1885-1895 urban renewal, workers dismantled and stored the column in various locations until its 1956 reconstruction two meters from its original position.
