Lake Molveno, Natural lake at the base of Brenta Dolomites, Italy.
Lake Molveno is a mountain lake roughly 4 400 meters long and up to 120 meters deep, situated between the Brenta Dolomites and the Paganella mountain range. The water is clear, and the shoreline has recreational facilities including volleyball courts, basketball courts, and a climbing wall.
The lake basin formed roughly 3 000 years ago through natural geological processes. Beneath the lake bed lies a petrified forest from the Iron Age, discovered during drainage work in 1952.
The area preserves Alpine traditions visible in the working water mill and the San Vigilio church from the 13th century near the shore. These places show how people lived and worked here in earlier times.
The water stays cold even in summer, so a wetsuit is helpful for swimming. The paths around the lake are easy to walk, and boat rentals let you explore the open water and deeper areas.
The water has an unusual greenish tint caused by minerals and algae, especially noticeable on sunny days. This coloring makes the lake instantly recognizable and gives it a distinctive appearance.
