The marble structure rises 18.5 meters high with two pairs of Corinthian columns flanking a central passageway of 3 meters width.
The Roman Senate commissioned the arch in 115 AD to honor Emperor Trajan's enhancement of Ancona's port and fortifications.
The monument features inscriptions that held bronze letters and spaces where statues of Emperor Trajan, his family, and sea deities stood.
