Sant'Elena, Island in Castello district, Venice, Italy
The eastern island of Venice contains residential areas, Rimembranze Park, a naval college, and the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo football stadium.
Originally separated from Venice by a lagoon section, Sant'Elena expanded in the 1920s through land reclamation and connected to the city via three bridges.
The Gothic-style Church of Sant'Elena, built by Augustinian monks in 1028, houses religious artifacts and features Renaissance architectural elements on its brick facade.
The island maintains regular water transportation connections through public boats and water taxis that link to central Venice locations.
The church bell tower contains a set of six bells that ring according to traditional Veronese bell ringing methods.
