Grego brothers Lodge, Mountain hut in Dogna, Italy
Grego Brothers Lodge sits at 1,390 meters (4,560 feet) elevation in the Julian Alps and provides beds for 38 guests with shared bathroom facilities. The shelter serves as a base for mountain activities and hikers traveling through the region.
The shelter was founded in 1927 and initially named after Attilio Grego, a climber from the area. The name later changed to honor all four brothers who died at different times between World War I and 1994.
The lodge is run by the Società Alpina delle Giulie, a mountain club that maintains local Alpine traditions and serves regional food to hikers and climbers. This commitment to hospitality reflects how such shelters remain gathering places in the mountain community.
From June to September, the route from Dogna follows a paved road to Sella di Sompdogna pass, then a short walk to reach the shelter. Outside these months, conditions change and visitors should check access beforehand.
The shelter provides direct access to Via Ferrata Amalia, a protected climbing route that leads to Montasio peak. This makes it a starting point for climbers seeking technical mountain routes.
