Teatro Donizetti

The Teatro Donizetti is an opera house located at Piazza Cavour in Bergamo with a finely detailed facade and interior from the late 18th century. The building features two tiers of balconies and a central audience hall that together hold approximately 1150 seats.

The house opened in 1791 following a design by architect Giovanni Francesco Lucchini, who shaped it as a neoclassical building. Over time it gained recognition for its artistic importance and was designated as national heritage, now protected as a monument.

The theater is named after Gaetano Donizetti, the famous composer born in Bergamo, and this connection reflects the city's deep bond with opera music. The performances here keep this musical tradition alive by regularly staging works by Donizetti and other composers.
