Palazzo della Provincia, Provincial government palace in Lower Town, Bergamo, Italy
Palazzo della Provincia is a government building in Lower Town featuring Renaissance architecture with three grand arched entrances. The facade displays decorated columns adorned with animal garlands and floral patterns across its structure.
Construction took place between 1864 and 1871, making it Bergamo's first public building after the Kingdom of Italy was established. This project marked the beginning of a new period for the city's institutional growth and urban development.
The Ulisse Room displays restored frescoes from a former villa showing Greek mythology scenes painted by local artists of the period. Visitors today can see these artworks and understand how artists once decorated noble homes in the region.
The building houses administrative offices and is easily accessible and recognizable from outside. The gardens with sculptures can be visited and offer a pleasant space to view outdoor artworks.
The Viterbi space opened in 2004 and functions as an exhibition center hosting rotating shows within the palace. Many visitors overlook this space even though it offers changing displays of contemporary and historical works.
