Temple of Isis, Roman temple in Benevento, Italy
The Temple of Isis features Egyptian obelisks, statues of priestesses, and baboon sculptures arranged along an avenue leading to the main sanctuary.
Emperor Domitian constructed this religious complex between 88 and 89 AD using materials transported directly from Egypt to honor the goddess Isis.
The temple exhibits a mix of Roman and Egyptian religious elements through its architectural design, decorative elements, and ceremonial artifacts.
Visitors can explore artifacts from the temple at the ARCOS museum in Benevento, including one of the original obelisks and numerous statues.
This temple stands as the only pharaonic-style religious structure built in Europe during the Roman period, with authentic Egyptian materials.
