Parco regionale del Mincio, Regional park along Mincio River in Province of Mantua, Italy
The Parco Regionale del Mincio is a protected park along the Mincio River in the Province of Mantua, encompassing wetlands, forests, and multiple nature reserves. The park connects different landscapes between Lake Garda and the Po River.
The area was reshaped in the 12th century through water engineering works that created a controlled water system with several lakes. This engineered water landscape has shaped the region around Mantua ever since.
The Rivalta visitor center displays an ethnographic collection about traditional river professions, with tools and documents from historical water-related work. The exhibition shows how people once depended on the water for their daily lives.
Two visitor centers at Rivalta and Bertone offer information and access to various trails and observation points. The best time to visit is during months with milder temperatures, when wildlife viewing is also most active.
Within the park lies Castellaro Lagusello, a village surrounded by a naturally heart-shaped lake in a moraine hill area. The location offers an unusual view of how the landscape was shaped in this region.
