Area naturale marina protetta Capo Gallo - Isola delle Femmine

The reserve spans 2,173 hectares of Mediterranean waters between Capo Gallo and Isola delle Femmine, featuring underwater caves and extensive Posidonia meadows.

The Ministry of Environment established this protected marine zone in 2002 to safeguard the marine biodiversity and geological resources of the Palermo coast.

The coastline contains multiple defense towers and natural cavities that hold archaeological remains, documenting centuries of maritime activities and human settlements.

The area divides into three protection zones: zone A prohibits swimming, zone B allows limited swimming and anchoring, while zone C permits general activities.

A German World War II aircraft wreck rests on the seabed, creating a habitat for Mediterranean moray eels and other marine species.
