Area naturale marina protetta Capo Gallo - Isola delle Femmine spreads across thousands of hectares of Mediterranean waters with underwater caves and extensive seagrass meadows. The zone divides into three protection areas with different rules for swimming and anchoring.

The Environment Ministry established this protected zone in 2002 to safeguard the marine biodiversity and geological resources of the Palermo coast. This action followed growing awareness of the ecological importance of this Mediterranean region.
