Area naturale marina protetta Isole di Ventotene e Santo Stefano

The marine reserve encompasses 2,799 hectares of Tyrrhenian Sea waters around Ventotene and Santo Stefano islands, featuring diverse underwater environments and marine species.

The Italian Ministry of Environment established this protected marine zone in 1997 to preserve the natural characteristics and ecological features of the Pontine Archipelago.

The area includes an Archaeological Museum and Migration Museum that present exhibitions about maritime traditions and historical artifacts from the Mediterranean region.

The protected area divides into three zones: Zone A for scientific research, Zone B for guided visits and authorized diving, and Zone C for navigation and fishing.

The marine reserve contains extensive Posidonia seagrass meadows that stabilize the seabed and provide shelter for numerous fish species, including brown groupers and barracudas.
