Description
The Chapel of Bishop Eroli is located in the right aisle of Spoleto Cathedral and features an apse decorated with detailed frescoes and carved stone moldings. The space is defined by its fine stonework and painted walls that draw the eye upward.
History
Bishop Costantino Eroli commissioned this chapel in 1497, a moment when the cathedral was undergoing significant rebuilding efforts. The creation of this space reflected the growing artistic activity taking place in Spoleto at that time.
Culture
The frescoes inside show the Madonna with the Child between Saint John the Baptist and Saint Leonardo in a lake setting, painted by Pinturicchio with careful attention to detail.
Practical
The chapel is positioned in the cathedral's right aisle, located adjacent to the Chapel of the Assumption, making it easy to find. Access is available during standard cathedral visiting hours.

Until 1845, the chapel held an octagonal baptismal font made from white stone, decorated with eight reliefs depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. This remarkable vessel was removed from the space long ago but left an enduring mark on the chapel's artistic legacy.
