The National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto occupies 1,241 square meters within the Rocca Albornoziana fortress, displaying 190 artifacts across 15 exhibition rooms on two floors.

Cardinal Egidio Albornoz commissioned the construction of the Rocca Albornoziana fortress in 1359, which served as a military stronghold and residence for papal officials until 1816.

The museum collection includes Roman sarcofagi, floor mosaics, Lombard sculptural fragments, and Renaissance paintings, documenting the artistic evolution from the 4th to 15th centuries.

The museum opens Monday through Friday from 09:30 to 18:30 and weekends from 09:30 to 13:45, with regular admission at 7.50 euros for adults over 25.

The fortress housed numerous popes and notable figures, including Lucrezia Borgia who served as governor in 1499, before becoming a prison from 1816 to 1982.
