Church of Saint John the Evangelist

The Church of Saint John the Evangelist is a Gothic church in Brescia with three naves supported by columns with decorated capitals. The interior contains several side chapels that display Renaissance artworks, including paintings and frescoes from the period.

The church was founded in the early 400s by Bishop Saint Gaudentius and served as an important religious site in Brescia. In 1440, it underwent comprehensive reconstruction during which two cloisters were added and Gothic structural elements took shape.

The Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament displays works by Moretto and Romanino that illustrate biblical scenes. These paintings shaped how worshippers experienced and understood sacred stories within the church.

Access to the interior is available during opening hours, allowing visitors to explore the architecture, artworks, and various chapels. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to walk through the three naves and side areas.

The interior houses an organ built in 1940, which was later expanded and decorates the left wall of the presbytery. This instrument shapes the acoustic and visual character of the church space.
