San Francesco ad Alto, Franciscan church in Ancona, Italy.
The church stands on Colle Astagno, featuring multiple altars and architectural elements that reflect various construction periods spanning several centuries.
Saint Francis of Assisi selected the location for this church during his visit to Ancona in 1219, leading to the establishment of the first Franciscan convent.
The church contained works by renowned artists including Carlo Crivelli and Titian, with some pieces now displayed in different museums across Italy.
The building underwent transformation into a military hospital in 1863 following the unification of Italy, resulting in structural modifications.
Father Gabriele Ferretti expanded the complex between 1422 and 1425, adding a dormitory for friars and a portico at the entrance.
