Iglesia de Santa Gema, Catholic church in Casalotti district, Rome, Italy.

The iglesia de Santa Gema is a church in the Casalotti district located on Piazza Castello di Porcareccia. The building displays a simple post-war style with straight lines and functional design that keeps the interior bright and open.

The church was built between 1950 and 1954 on the grounds of the former Porcareccia castle, replacing a small chapel that had served the area for years. Father Bernardino Mastroianni oversaw the construction and became its first parish priest, while local workers completed the project.

The church holds the parish seat of Saints Rufina and Seconda, established on July 10, 1954, replacing the former Santa Maria church within Porcareccia Castle.

Visitors find the church open during regular mass times, and the location on the square makes it easy to find and navigate. The neighborhood setting means there are no major access obstacles for those arriving on foot.

The future Pope John XXIII celebrated mass in the former chapel on this site before the current church was built. This connection to Church history holds special meaning for Catholic visitors.
