Architect Flaminio del Turco designed this church, which opened on October 16, 1611, under the patronage of the Medici family.
The Palio of Siena takes place every July 2nd to honor the Madonna di Provenzano, with celebrations centered around this religious building.
Visitors can access the Oratory del Suffragio beneath the church through a separate entrance located on Via della Vergine.
The church houses a 14th-century terracotta Madonna icon, which received a silver covering in 1806 to ensure its protection.
