Cinema Apollo, Former movie theater in Florence, Italy
Cinema Apollo on Via Nazionale was a movie theater with orchestra seating and two balcony levels, designed in the Art Deco style. The spatial layout and interior finishes displayed typical features of this elegant architectural approach.
The building originally opened in 1936 as Cine-Teatro Rex. It operated as a cinema until 1986, when screenings came to an end.
The cinema was a gathering place where Florentines came together to watch films of different kinds. Over many decades, it created a social space where the community shared entertainment experiences.
The space is no longer accessible as a cinema but now functions as a hotel. Visitors interested in seeing the Art Deco features can observe them in the hotel areas that are open to the public.
Architect Nello Baroni designed the theater with distinctive Art Deco elements that remain visible in the current hotel structure. These architectural details offer visitors a window into the original design.
