Convento Michetti, Medieval convent in Francavilla al Mare, Italy
The Convento Michetti is a medieval building near the Adriatic coast that features a cloister with large windows and a whitewashed refectory. The structure retains the typical characteristics of a monastery from that era.
The monastery was established in 1430 as a Franciscan community and served that purpose for centuries. In 1885 the painter Francesco Paolo Michetti acquired it and transformed it into his artist studio.
The convent became a meeting place for artists and writers in the early 20th century. Gabriele D'Annunzio wrote his novel 'Il Piacere' here during his stays.
The building is privately owned by Michetti's descendants and visits require advance planning. The space can accommodate up to 200 guests for events.
A bronze statue of painter Francesco Paolo Michetti, created by his student Nicola D'Antino, has stood at the entrance since 1938. The sculpture commemorates Michetti's artistic legacy at this location.
