Riserva naturale di interesse provinciale Pineta Dannunziana, Regional nature reserve in southern Pescara, Italy.
Pineta Dannunziana is a protected nature reserve in Pescara where Mediterranean plants such as Aleppo pines, holm oaks, and myrtles grow throughout the grounds. The forest surrounds a small lake and features several walking trails that wind through the vegetation.
The pine forest originally covered about 3,000 hectares in the 18th century before large-scale logging for timber and construction land reduced its size. This reserve represents a surviving portion of that once-vast forest.
Between 1904 and 1912, writer Gabriele D'Annunzio resided in the area and wrote his tragedy 'La Figlia di Iorio' among the pine trees.
Visitors can explore the park through walking trails of varying difficulty that wind throughout the grounds. The location is easily accessible from central Pescara by public transportation.
The reserve is home to more than 100 bird species and various mammals including deer and wild boar living within the city. This concentration of wildlife in an urban setting makes it a remarkable place for observing nature.
