Forte del Colle delle Finestre, Military fort in Meana di Susa, Italy
The fort stands at an elevation of 2186 meters, built into a rock hollow with two 57mm Gruson guns positioned for defense operations.
The Italian military constructed this fortification in 1891 as part of the Alpine defense system, maintaining its operational status until 1928.
The structure represents late 19th-century military engineering, featuring strategic observation points and thick walls designed for mountain warfare tactics.
Provincial Road 172 leads to the fort through 33 hairpin turns, covering 18.7 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1692 meters.
The fort forms part of the Giro dei Forti circuit and includes the only unpaved section featured in the Giro d'Italia cycling race.
