Monte Antoroto

Monte Antoroto is a mountain summit in the Ligurian Alps that rises to 2,144 meters above sea level with distinctive limestone rock formations. The peak features a rounded subsummit located near the main summit point.

The mountain paths across Monte Antoroto historically served as trading routes connecting Piedmont valleys and allowing merchants to move goods between communities. These passages were essential for commerce and travel across the Alpine region over many generations.

The mountain marks the natural boundary between the upper Tanaro Valley and Casotto Valley, influencing how communities on each side developed their own ways of life. You can still notice these differences today in the local farming practices and how people use the surrounding land.

The climb to the summit is challenging and requires good physical fitness along with proper mountain hiking equipment. A mountain refuge located along the route provides shelter and supplies for those making the ascent.
